Through a large-scale installation that integrates excerpts of archival text, found images, and objects, Upto Oneself explores the concept of racial progress in America, opening up a discursive space to examine the tensions between perceived and actual progress. While the context is unique to the USA, questions of national progression are familiar concerns for many nations, particularly Ukraine. Although this installation specifically explores American racial progress, it also contains pointers towards conceptual concerns with the temporal politics of liberation and the language we use to talk about time.
