“Crossing the Boundary” – the second part of the project “The Forbidden Image”, which presents a curatorial view of the Kharkiv School of Photography, allowing to understand the context and time when, at the end of the 70s in the “city of engineers,” young photographers united into a group called “Vremya.” This exhibition-research is dedicated to artists who observed the world collapsing around them and discovered a space for experimentation in terms of content, artistic technique, and form. The exposition focuses on a carefully considered selection of artists from the first and second generations of the Kharkiv School, in accordance with the curatorial concept of the exhibition “The Forbidden Image.”
Participating artists of the exhibition: Andriy Avdieienko, Serhiy Bratkov, Viktor and Serhiy Kochetovy, Yevheniy Pavlov, Pavlo Makov, Oleh Malovanyy, Misha Pedan, Roman Pyatkovka, Yuriy Rupin, Serhiy Solonskyi, Oleksandr Suprun, and Alina Kleitman, Sasha Kurmaz, Serhiy Melnychenko, Mykola Ridnyi.
This exhibition attests to the consistent interest of the PinchukArtCentre Research Platform and its significant contribution to the study of the Kharkiv School of Photography as a historical phenomenon and as a school that continues to generate outstanding artists. “Crossing the Boundary” is an exhibition within which PinchukArtCentre presents for the first time a group of artists who will be the subject of further research, and whose solo exhibitions will be organized in the coming years.
